We need a return to real science with randomized PLACEBO controlled trials with clear results and statistical analysis of those results made public with corresponding PUBLIC display of all parties with conflicts of interest including all the NIH and NIAID affiliations who actually profited from many patents and medicines now "popularly" availab.e
However, "cause and effect" are individual cases. Placebo controlled trials are statistical collections of selected cases which cannot prove "cause and effect" in any individual case. We need to give appropriate weight to case studies and not rely totally on statistical studies.
